Efficient transport and logistics systems will be critical in accelerating Zimbabwe’s economic growth, industrialisation, tourism and trade as the country pursues Vision 2030 and upper-middle-income status, Zimpapers Chief Executive Officer Mr William Chikoto has said.
Speaking at the ongoing Zimpapers Public Lecture Series in Harare today, Mr Chikoto said transport infrastructure has become a strategic pillar for improving national competitiveness and unlocking sustainable economic development.
The public lecture is running under the theme, “Moving Zimbabwe Forward: Transport Logistics as the Backbone of an Upper Middle Income Economy,” and has brought together policymakers, industry leaders, academics and business executives to discuss the role of transport in driving economic transformation.
Mr Chikoto said as Zimbabwe advances towards Vision 2030, efficient transport networks would determine the speed at which goods reach markets, lower the cost of doing business, attract investment and improve the country’s overall economic performance.
“As Zimbabwe advances towards Vision 2030 and the attainment of upper middle-income status, transport logistics has become even more important. It is now a strategic enabler of national competitiveness.
“Efficient transport networks determine the speed at which goods reach markets, the cost of doing business, the attractiveness of investment destinations and, ultimately, the prosperity of our people,” said Mr Chikoto.
Zimpapers is using its Public Lecture Series to facilitate national dialogue on key economic sectors and ensure development initiatives are widely understood by citizens.
