Beitbridge Bureau
THE Zimbabwe Anti Corruption Commission has said it does not condone wilful disregard of the laws of the country.
In a statement last night, ZACC spokesperson Ms Simiso Mlevu said the antigraft body had noted with concern that some travellers were resisting complying with regulations at security check points.
ZACC, which is carrying out a week-long anti-corruption awareness programme in Beitbridge, said a number of motorists and travellers had become truant and were not complying with instructions from law enforcement agencies.
“We note with concern that some travellers, motorists, and members of the public are resisting searches at security check points following an awareness campaign held in Beitbridge,” said Ms Mlevu. “Road blocks are a mandate of the Zimbabwe Republic Police [ZRP] and as such officers are guided by their statutory duties,” she said.
“The public is encouraged to comply with lawful instructions from police officers, whether in uniform or not. Resisting lawful instructions of a peace offence is an offence. The public is also urged to comply with the country’s laws, declare goods and pay duty to facilitate smooth travel and trade. ZACCis committed to combating corruption and embracing intra agency cooperation is important in the execution of this mandate.”
