Arts, culture and music lovers are in for a treat today as New Magwegwe suburb in Bulawayo hosts the fifth edition of the Africa Day Ko Wasu concert.

The event boasts a star-studded line-up featuring Afro-jazz legend Jeys Marabini, Snippers Dance Crew, Sunduza Dance Ensemble, Mahlaba, Fab G and Mzistozz, among other local acts.

Speaking ahead of the show, Jeys Marabini said performing in celebration of Africa Day in the community that supported his  rise in music makes the event special.

“To perform at this event is beautiful. It shows consistency and genuine love for the arts. Africa Day is about celebrating our stories through music and I cannot wait to perform at Wasu shops,” said Marabini.

Sunduza Dance Ensemble director Charles Mahlaba promised an energetic performance, saying the event continues to grow every year.

“This is a huge moment for local creatives. The energy in Magwegwe this year will be unmatched, and we’re ready to showcase the incredible talent we have in Bulawayo,” he said.

Running under the theme Africa Day KoWasu, the concert celebrates African heritage while shining a spotlight on artistic talent from Bulawayo’s western suburbs.

The event is sponsored by local businessman and arts promoter Blessing “Wasu” Mareya, who said reaching the five-year milestone reflects strong community support.

“Africa Day reminds us of our roots, identity and shared journey as Africans. This event is about bringing people together, celebrating our culture and giving local artistes the platform they deserve,” said Mareya.

Organisers have urged members of the public to attend in large numbers and support local talent. Besides music and dance performances, revellers will also enjoy traditional African cuisine and refreshments throughout the day.
