The trial of a 26-year-old Ruwa teacher who is alleged to have indecently assaulted his 15-year-old student, which was supposed to start on Monday, was postponed to Tuesday after the teacher’s lawyer failed to show up at the Goromonzi Magistrates Court due to sickness.
The teacher Stanley Rusanga, relayed the news to the court he appeared before the Goromonzi Magistrate’s Court.
The court advised all the witnesses in the case about the postponment but warned that the trial will start on Tuesday even if the lawyer failed to turn up.
Allegations are that on October 10, 2025, Rusanga touched his student inappropriately in a science laboratory where the learner had gone to seek assistance with certain physics topics.
The student approached Rusanga, who advised her to wait, since he was still engaged with other school work.
It is reported that around 3 pm, the learner again approached Rusanga who was on his way to the science lab.
They proceeded to the science laboratory together and while inside, Rusanga started fondling the learner.
It is further alleged that the learner tried to run away but he grabbed her and forced her to touch his privates.
The learner later told her mother of the abuse and together they reported the incident to the police, leading to the Rusanga’s arrest.
