Triangle 1-0 ZPC KARIBA
A stoppage time goal from Never Rauzhi gave Triangle United much needed maximum points after edging 10-man ZPC Kariba in a Castle Lager Premiership match at Gibbo yesterday.
Before the match Triangle had gone through a barren spell that saw them drop to the relegation zone having last tasted victory on Match Day 12 when they beat Cranborne 2-1 at the same venue.
Yesterday’s win was in the absence of head coach Thulani Sibanda, who is in Tanzania for his CAF coaching badge. It was the Sugar Sugar Boys’ fourth win in 21 matches and helped them move out of the relegation zone to occupy 13th position with 23 points.
Assistant coach Edmond Chimhini was head of technical and praised his charges for the fighting spirit and hopes this will be the turning point for the Lowveld based side.
“It’s a huge relief for us, this is a very important win for us. It’s been a long time since we managed to collect maximum points and you can see by the way everyone is celebrating.
“It’s a very good achievement as a team and we hope this win will give us much needed confidence in our next game against Black Rhinos,” said Chimhini.
ZPC had managed to keep Triangle at bay despite numerous chances created by the hosts.
ZPC goalkeeper Hamilton Makainganwa was fantastic between the posts but was let down by some clumsy challenges by midfieder Collen Muleya who received marching orders with three minutes to play.
Triangle capitalised on their numerical advantage and piled pressure on the visitors and they deservedly scored in the referee’s optional time right at the dearth as Gibbo erupted with a huge roar as they celebrated the team’s first win in nine matches.
The visitors coach Luke “Vahombe” Masomere was devastated with the result and is worried by the lack of goals by his side.
“We played very well overall but what matters most in football are goals. We haven’t been scoring, I have a very blunt strike force but I am doing my best to come up with the right combinations. If you look at our last three games, they are all nil all draws and we really need to continue working hard and get at least a goal or two per match.
“We will definitely avoid relegation that one is out of question. We can struggle like this but we will achieve our primary objective,” said Masomere.
