Goals from Warririos trialist Misheck Mburayi and Walter Mukanga powered Triangle to victory against Chicken Inn on the last match day of the 2013 season at Gibbo yesterday.
The sugarcane growers had simply too much firepower for the visitors, who found themselves 2-0 down inside the first 36minutes only to see their hopes to pull a goal back extinguished by Ashly Reyners who saved a Tendai Ndoro penalty at the end of the first half.
Chicken Inn started stronger and had an early chance to take the lead when Kudakwashe Mahachi saw his lob go over the bar in the first minute.
In the 10th minute Mahachi was again in the thick of things and dribbled past his marker to set up Ndoro who volleyed over the crossbar.
Courage Denias’ quick one with Nhamo Lameck was cleared for a corner by Moses Jackson a minute later before Mburayi dribbled past Jackson and curled a low shot that needed a double save from Chicken Inn goalkeeper Liberty Chirava.
In the 13th minute Triangle went ahead with a superbly taken header from Mburayi after a perfectly-weighted corner from Pasca Manhanga. Clement Matawu and Mahachi forced two corners in five minutes later before rock solid defender David Sengu cleared the ball out of danger.
Triangle added a second goal in the 36th minute when Nhamo Lameck orchestrated a move before playing the ball to Mburayi whose pin point cross was well connected by Walter Mukanga and sent the home fans into ruptures. Chirava was again called upon to make a crucial save after 40 minutes, bravely tipping Denias’ header over the bar. Chinungwa’s nightmare started four minutes later when his challenge earned Chicken Inn a free-kick which was saved by Rayners. Chinungwa then handled while trying to clear and Norman Matemera did not hesitate to point to the spot. Ndoro stepped up in a bid to to beat last season’s tally of 18 goals set by Nelson Maziwisa but was denied by Rayners at the death of the first stanza.
Matawu who was lively in the Chicken Inn midfield played a fantastic ball to Ndoro whose thunderous shot was again blocked by Reyners who was on top of his game.
Tendai Mukambi reduced the deficit with an individual effort when he powered a shot that beat Reyners.
