HOSTS Triangle United needed a penalty shoot out lottery to register their name as one of the 2015 Chibuku Super Cup quarter finalists with a 3-0 win over Tsholotsho FC after a 2-2 stalemate in regulation time at Gibbo Stadium yesterday afternoon. Triangle missed one of their four penalties with Nelson Meson failing to cap his fine showing with a conversion as he skied his effort.

Cabby Kamhapa and Charles Rukwanhi scored before Hillary Bakacheza scored a winning penalty leading to wild celebrations from the Triangle bench.

Veteran Siza Khoza and William Stima all missed target from the spot for Tsholotsho and Ashley Reyners had a slight touch on Lynnoth Chikuhwa’s effort before it came off the post to the frustration of head coach Lizwe Sweswe.

“It was a cup game, they won on penalties but the boys played well in regulation time it’s frustrating failing to score even a single penalty from the trusted penalty takers,” said Sweswe.

The hosts had started the game on a high note dictating pace in midfield with Hillary Bakacheza, Pasca Manhanga and Hardlife Mavhundi on top of the game.

Triangle however, failed to create any meaningful chance in the opening 20 minutes.

Tsholotsho were presented with a chance to score when they were awarded a penalty while Triangle captain Jimmy Tigere got his marching orders for a professional foul on Khoza who had been through on goal.

Chikuhwa scored the resultant spot kick sending Reyners the wrong way in the 20th minute before completing his brace after beating an offside trap to score the equaliser just after the hour mark.

Triangle were gifted with their first goal in the 27th minute when Meson burst through the Tsholotsho defence and his brilliant cross was deflected into the net by Calvin Moyo.

The home side could have levelled terms in the 53rd minute but Courage Denias’ header from a perfect Brian Juwayeyi cross went wide off the near post.
