A SOLITARY goal by veteran midfielder Russel Madamombe was enough two separate Triangle and Black Rhinos in a Castle Lager Premiership football encounter at Gibbo yesterday.

The opening minutes were too physical following a scuffle between the technical staff in the build up to the match. Rhinos coach Herbert “Jompano’’ Maruwa and Triangle goalkeepers coach Thembinkosi Sibanda were only separated by police officers following some exchanges.

The heat continued in the pitch as Rhinos forward Vincent Mhandu was replaced six minutes into the game following an off the ball incident involving Tawanda Chisi.

The game started to open up after 15 minutes. Emmaculate Mawuna got a chance but pushed his effort wide from six yards out after a good cross from Jameson Mukombwe.

Just a minute later Donald Ngoma had his effort saved in a one on one situation with Blessing Mwandimutsira. Madamombe collected the rebound to set up Tinashe Kabanda who crashed his effort against the crossbar from ten yards out as the scores remained level.

Triangle were unlucky not to score in the first half after piling pressure on the visitors.

Madamombe had two chances in succession, his first was a first time volley that went inches wide before his headed effort was acrobatically tipped over for a corner by Mwandimutsira in the 33rd minute.

Black Rhinos’ best and only chance of the first half fell to veteran striker Tawanda Nyamandwe but his tame effort was easily collected by Geoffrey Chitsumba in the 39th minute.

Madamombe, who was by far the best player on the field, converted from the spot two minutes into the second half after a foul by Mwandimutsira on Mawuna.
