A MAN and two women allegedly ganged up and assaulted a patron at a beer garden in Bulawayo’s Makokoba suburb following an argument over beer, a magistrate has heard.

Magistrate Sibongile Msipa Marondedze heard that Prisca Ndlovu, 57, Stanley Moyo, 63, and Sipho Tshuma, 53, allegedly assaulted Ignatius Khumalo with fists all over the body and later attacked him using empty beer bottles resulting in the complainant sustaining severe injuries. The incident occurred at Big Bhawa Beer Garden on Saturday. Khumalo is admitted at Mpilo Central Hospital where he is being treated. Ndlovu, Moyo and Tshuma made an initial appearance before Msipa-Marondedze facing an assault charge.

They were not asked to plead and were remanded out of custody to June 2 on $20 bail each.

“You’re required to pay bail of $20 each so that you’ll be out of custody until the finalisation of the matter. We’re still waiting for the medical report since Khumalo is still admitted in hospital,” said Msipa Marondedze.

Prosecuting, Nkathazo Dlodlo told the court that on May 16 at round 9PM, Ndlovu, Moyo and Tshuma were at Big Bhawa Beer Garden. Dlodlo said the three had a misunderstanding with Khumalo over beer. It was not made clear what had transpired prior to the quarrel. The court heard that the three started assaulting Khumalo with fists and empty bottles several times all over the body. Dlodlo said Khumalo sustained serious injuries and was rushed to Mpilo Hospital where he is admitted.
