THE co-owners of a Harare car sale and a security guard have been arrested following a fatal attack by four security dogs on Malcolm Takudzwa Muzavazi (39) in Southerton last Thursday.
One of the co-owners, Gilbert Rumbwere (44), had been on the run following the incident.
The male Belgian Malinois and three Belgian Malinois-German Shepherd crossbreeds were under the care of a private security guard, who released them from their kennels for feeding at around 6pm last Thursday.
Security guard Mannex Svova (21) and the other co-owner of the car sale, Itai Tamirepi (43), were arrested along with Rumbwere.
National police spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi said Mr Muzavazi was attacked by the four dogs last Thursday along a footpath near Scorpion Empire Car Sale.
The two co-owners and the security guard were subsequently arrested.
He reiterated that, under the law, all dog owners must exercise responsibility and ensure that their dogs are properly secured and controlled at all times to prevent attacks on members of the public.
Dogs must be confined within premises and are only permitted in public places when under the effective control of a responsible person or on a leash.
“The public is urged to report cases of stray, aggressive or uncontrolled dogs to the National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, relevant local authorities or the nearest police station, or contact the National Complaints Desk on (024) 2703631 or WhatsApp on 0712800197 for appropriate action,” said Comm Nyathi.
