adminThree farm workers from Beatrice appeared before a Chitungwiza court yesterday for allegedly stealing 48 bales of tobacco worth $17 280 from their employer.
Tafadzwa Shonhayi (23), Godfrey Jack (38) and Jacob Makwanya (52) appeared before magistrate Mrs Yeukai Chigodora facing theft charges.
They pleaded not guilty and will be back in court on May 29 for trial continuation.
Prosecutor Mr Norman Koropi alleged that Shonhayi, Jack and Makwanya, who were employed at Alicedale Farm as security guard, farm manager and farm supervisor respectively, connived to steal Shamiso Masuko’s tobacco, which was due for sale.
Mr Koropi further alleged that on May 9 Shonhayi phoned Tapfumanei Zibute and informed him that he was selling two bales of tobacco and he bought 115kg for $60, which he paid through Ecocash.
Jack phoned James Mapiri on May 15 and told him that they were selling 200kg of tobacco and around 2100 hours Mapiri’s wife made a payment of $40. They reportedly did the same with many other people until the offences were discovered. — Herald Reporter.
