THREE Chitungwiza residents appeared before a local magistrate last Friday charged with murder for fatally assaulting their former in-law after he visited his ex-wife to see his child.Margaret Graiton (40) is jointly charged with two others, Emmanuel Bande (21) and Regina Liyaya (35), all of 966 St Mary’s.
They were not formally charged when they appeared before Mr Kudakwashe Jarabini, who remanded the trio in custody to December 20 and advised them to seek bail at the High Court.
The three are said to be relatives to the now deceased Noel Meki’s unidentified former wife. According to court papers, Meki – who was drunk – visited his former wife’s residence in the same town last week on Wednesday at around 8am with the intention of seeing they child they had together.
It is alleged that the former husband and wife had an agreement and Meki became violent. The three accused were present when the altercation started, it is alleged, and they are said to have teamed up to punch and kick Meki.
The court heard that a witness, Israel Mutsekwa (age not given), saw the assault. It is alleged that Meki’s body was found close to Manyame Complex the same day and a police report was made leading to the trio’s arrest.
