THREE Penhalonga men were last week hauled before the courts on assault charges after torturing and robbing a fellow resident of US$40 and his clothes.
Tatenda Pagara (29), Tanaka Chirimanyemba (24) and Nigel Charamba (21) were denied bail and remanded in custody when they appeared before Mutare magistrate, Ms Perseverance Makala.
Prosecuting, Ms Sharon Chibvongodze said on August 16, the trio approached Kenneth Chihiya (23) who was at his friend’s house and accused him of theft.
“Chirimanyemba dragged Chihiya as Charamba held him by the collar. Pagara was grabbing his pair of trousers. Pagara assaulted Chihiya on the face,” said Ms Chibvongodze.
The trio dragged Chihiya to Charamba’s residence.
Pagara made Chihiya to lie down on his back before Chirimanyemba tied his privates with a shoelace which was also tied on an iron bar weighing about 20-25kg.
“Charamba lit a plastic paper using a gas lighter and dropped the burning plastic wax all over Chihiya’s body. He went on to instruct Chihiya to lift the iron bar with his privates still tied to it,” said Ms Chibvongodze.
Pagara then took Chihiya’s clothes and US$40.
Chihiya sustained burns all over the body, swollen left cheek, swollen right arm and swollen privates as a result of the assault.
The value of the clothes is $2 150 and nothing was recovered.
A police report was made, leading to the trio’s arrest.
