adminSpeaking during the launch of the Tripple B Times magazine on Saturday, the club’s president Edward Kanyangu said the wait for Premiership action in Beitbridge was almost over as they were gunning for the championship.
“We as the people of Beitbridge have been isolated as we have not had Premier Soccer League action here since the days of Underhill back in 2009. I believe this is the time to show people that we are capable of hosting big teams here in Beitbridge. We want them (big teams) to come and play in a refurbished Dulibadzimu Stadium. With a good facility, what should stop us from inviting even teams from South Africa for some friendly games?
“As Tripple B, we believe that if we stand together we can conquer,” said Kanyangu.
Beitbridge is home to three Zifa Central Region Division One Soccer League teams which are Tripple B, FC Strikers and Town FC. There is fierce rivalry between Tripple B and FC Strikers’ followers which has almost divided the border town’s community.
Kanyangu called for unity and urged all stakeholders to work together for the benefit of the game.
“At the end of the day we want football to be the winner and for that reason, we should fight for points on the field of play and after 90 minutes, we go out as brothers and that is where business starts.
“This magazine which we are launching is not only for Tripple B, but it will seek to tell the stories of Beitbridge, the Central Region where we belong and the country’s soccer news. The business community can take the opportunity to support this noble project and make sure that they benefit through advertising their products,” he said.
As part of its marketing drive, Tripple B also embarked on a branded bottled water project which they are selling in the border town.
Meanwhile, their head coach Friday Phiri said they would beef up their squad and go for the second half of the league stronger.
“The second half will be tricky and we just have to be prepared for the final hurdle. We will bring in three or four players to beef up our squad,” said Phiri.
Already, they have signed strikers Alick Marime from Hardbody and Quelaton’s Amani Makhiwa.
Former Njube Sundowns and Chicken Inn rightback Frank “Skwila” Mvula is also training with the Zifa Central Region Division One Soccer League championship favourites.
