Tristar Insurance empowers youths

Business Reporter
First Mutual Holdings subsidiary Tristar Insurance Company has unveiled a competition aimed at assisting youths to gain much-needed corporate experience by affording them an opportunity to be managers for a limited period.

Under the competition, which is part of the insurer’s Corporate Social Responsibility initiative, youths are encouraged to send in a proposal via the insurer’s Facebook page explaining why they would want to be managing director for a week.

The proposal with the most likes qualifies the proposer to be managing director for a week. This, according to the company, is part of its strategy to harness the market and create brand awareness from an early age as well as empower youths through exposure to various possibilities.

The first winner of the competition was Precylar Sinikiwe Mavengere. She has been shadowing Tristar’s MD Mr Marangwanda for a week gaining insight into how the business works and how it fits into a group.

Ms Mavenegere (26), who is studying for a Bachelor of Commerce Finance degree with the University of South Africa (UNISA), said she expected to meet new people and challenges.

“Being MD for the week will expose me to new challenges and new people. I expect to create new networks, learn as much as I possibly can through these various interactions and hopefully gain enough insight as to how to become an entrepreneur.

“My greatest fear is to go through life without fully exhausting my potential. I would want to be the best that I can be, to be successful in every aspect of my life and I fear that I might be running out of time slowly before I achieve all I can.”

On what drives her, she said: “I am driven by encouraging others to be the best they can be. I wish to encourage all the young people out there to keep pushing towards their dreams.

“In today’s world it is easy to lose sight of the bigger picture while we chase after bread and butter issues, but I believe there is still room to work towards being the person you always wanted to be.

“It might take longer than expected but it’s not entirely impossible and I want to reiterate that in the young people of today”

The insurer has also partnered with This ’n’ That Club on a weekly interactive radio programme aimed at dealing with issues affecting youths while at the same time introducing the importance of insurance for all in the community.
