A VILLAGE head in Chidobe Ward outside Victoria Falls has been suspended while another one will appear before a headman over insubordination and corruption allegations involving the sale of land, some of it to whites.
Acting Chief Mvuthu Bishop Matata Sibanda confirmed the suspension of Dibutibu village head Mrs Sarah Ncube by headman Enock Marathuza Ndlovu last weekend. He said Mrs Ncube had since lodged an appeal at the chief’s court and the case would be heard on November 5.
“She came to file an appeal and the case will go through on the 5th of November. From the report I have been given she is alleged to have sold stands to people. We urge people to come forward with such evidence as we need these details to be able to deal with the issue,” said the acting chief.
He said the Dibutibu village head refused to appear before headman Marathuza Ndlovu’s court. The acting chief said he could not comment on Chisuma village head Mr Tabona Ncube who is expected to appear before headman Marathuza tomorrow.
“I would need to hear the whole story so that we handle it in a just manner. As for Chisuma village head Mr Tabona Ncube, no report has been brought to me as yet while Mr Felix Dube, village head for Chidobe village was suspended recently,” added the acting chief. Mr Dube was the first to be suspended after he was caught red handed having sex with a villager’s wife resulting in the community blowing the whistle on the stands scam.
Some of the stands were allegedly sold to whites who have erected structures such as chalets and lodges. Acting chief Mvuthu said there are a number of white tour operators who have erected structures along the Zambezi River especially in Dibutibu after clandestinely buying land from some corrupt leaders.Villagers in Chidobe are reportedly up in arms with one of the whites who was given a stand and is now demanding money from them to access water at his premises.
Hwange Rural District Council chairperson Councillor Siphiwe Mafuwa recently said the local authority would destroy all properties built on land not allocated by council.Local Government, Public Works and National Housing Minister Saviour Kasukuwere last week told local authorities at a Local Government Investment Conference here that councillors, MPs and chiefs had no power to allocate land as that was the preserve of Government.— @ncubelon.
