A 30-year-old man has appeared at the Plumtree Magistrates’ Court facing a charge of driving under the influence of alcohol.

Mathembe Ncube was arrested on 25 August 2026 at around 9.30pm at a Plumtree police roadblock situated 98km from Bulawayo along Plumtree Road. The accused resides in Bulawayo and is employed by Wittran Investments, a Namibian company.

According to court papers, the accused person was driving a Namibian heavy-duty motor vehicle, a Scania truck with a gross vehicle mass (GVM) of 27 000kg/27 tonnes. He was towing one container trailer and heading towards Plumtree Border Post.

The accused was under the influence of alcohol or drugs, or both, which poses danger to other road users as it affects ability to properly control the vehicle. Ncube was remanded out of custody to 14 September 2026 by Magistrate Benjamin Makono. Bulawayo-based lawyer, Mr Joshua Nembaware of T Hara and Partners, represented the accused while Selestine Madziwa represented the State.
