A 31-year-old man from Bulawayo has been fined US$140 after being found in possession of an okapi knife in his pocket.
Gino Murape of Old Lobengula was convicted of possession of a prohibited weapon by Western Commonage magistrate Mr Jeconia Prince Ncube. He pleaded guilty to the charge.
In sentencing him, Mr Ncube told the court that Murape was to pay a fine of US $140 or Zig equivalent, in default of which he would serve two months in prison.
Prosecuting, Ms Catherine Kuzu told the court that on July 10 at around 11PM in Old Lobengula, Constable Simon Tivugare was on patrol and conducting stop and searches.
“When they searched Murape they found him in possession of an Okapi knife,” she said.
The court heard that Murape was arrested and the Okapi knife was seized from him.
