‘True to its motto’

Having scooped two Secretary’s Bell Awards of excellence in previous years, Tsholotsho High School continues to assert its position as one of the best schools in Matabeleland region.

The school’s achievements are par excellence and true to its motto “We strive for excellence,” which has been part of the school since its inception.

Tsholotsho High School offers day and boarding school facilities from Form One to Form Six.

With an enrollment of over 800 pupils comprising mainly of boarders, the institution looks forward to enrolling a record 1 000 pupils next year to effectively achieve its mission of providing quality education that enhances academics, good character and rounded development of all pupils.

The school does not register its pupils for June public examinations in line with its belief that pupils have been equipped to achieve more in one seating, that is during the November public examinations.

Last year in November, the school registered its pupils for more than six O-Level subjects and the results obtained were a true reflection of hard work from both the pupils and the teachers.

The best performing pupil, Glen Ndlovu attained 10 As in the November 2018 examination session while Arnold Sibanda scooped eight As.

Among the top O-Level achievers, three pupils attained seven As, six got 5 As while two pupils attained six As.

The A-Level November examinations were not an exception as the school excelled at that level as well.

At A-Level, one of the top achievers, Njabulo Moyo attained a whopping 19 points from four subjects.

Two pupils got 18 points, four had 17 points, eight pupils attained 15 points while seven got 10 points.

Tsholotsho High School has embarked on a vibrant five-year development plan that has seen the school prioritising not only the academic growth of the pupils but also their wellbeing.

The school has developed a banana plantation and a nutritional garden project to ensure pupils have access to nutritious fruits and vegetables.

It has also resorted to using biogas, an organic renewable energy resource which is also environment friendly. This is a huge development which is not common in many schools.

In line with the new competence-based curriculum that promotes the use of Information Communication Technologies (ICTs), the institution has become an ICT powerhouse where pupils have access to computers and the internet for effective learning.

The school recorded a milestone when it got a package of 16 computers from Unicef after being selected as one of the top 20 schools in the country to benefit from the Unicef pilot national ICT project.

The package has promoted the rate at which the school has embraced ICT learning.

The teachers are highly trained to churn out business-oriented pupils who go on to do well in their chosen career paths and their performance in the business field says it all.

In July this year, the school came out second and scooped a silver medal at the National Business Case competition termed “ZB Bank Emergination Schools Business Case”.

The pupils developed a business concept which they defended at national level for its viability and credibility. They were also awarded a prize money of ZWL$15 000 which contributed to the development of the institution.

Not only does the school excel in academics but it also outshines other schools in the province and the country at large in extra-curricular activities particularly sports.

The Tsholotsho High School under-20 soccer team qualified to represent Matabeleland North province at the National Association of Secondary School Heads (Nash) soccer competitions.

Today, the school hosts its annual speech and prize giving day, a tradition adopted by the school to celebrate excelling pupils. The event is also held to recognise and celebrate each year’s achievements.— @michellzvanyanyan2.
