FORMER Bulawayo City coach, Try Ncube has joined Hwange FC. The club has been under the tutelage of Edmore Sibanda and Chipangano legend Obert “Cobra” Moyo since the departure of Bongani Mafu back in March.

Mafu, who laid the foundation for Hwange’s 2022 Zifa Southern Region Division One Soccer League campaign before leaving in March to join Ngezi Platinum Stars as assistant coach to Benjani Mwaruwari, was being tipped for a return to Hwange after parting ways with Ngezi  Platinum.

Impeccable sources said the initial plan by Hwange was to bring back Mafu at the end of the season. Other names that were considered by Chipangano are believed to be Bigboy Mawiwi and Masimba Dinyero. Without going into much detail, Hwange club chairman Nairos Deredza confirmed the arrival of Ncube.

“Ncube will be joining us as the new head coach,” he said.

The 48-year-old Ncube, is a holder of a Caf B coaching qualification. He led Bulawayo City to the Southern Region Division One title in 2019.

Hwange pressed on with their quest for an early return to the Premier Soccer League when they defeated Mosi Rovers 1-0 at Chinotimba Stadium in Victoria Falls last weekend, the same day second-placed ZPC Hwange won 2-0 against CIWU at Luveve Stadium’s B-arena.

Shepherd Gadzikwa scored the only goal of the match with five minutes to go and Chipangano held on for their 22nd win of the season. After the win, Hwange moved to 69 points while their neighbours are on 64.

Third-placed Arenel Movers returned to winning ways, 2-1 victorious over Indlovu Iyanyathela at White City Stadium to move to 60 points.

FC Talen Vision continued to cement their fourth position with a 1-0 win over Mountain Climbers, which took Lizwe Sweswe’s men to 55 points. -@innocentskizoe
