RHUMBA musician Perfect “Tsheba” Vundla is all smiles following the recent successful launch of his 15th album, Ofinga Bafun’Induku, in South Africa.

The seven-track project is tailor-made for the festive season, a period when Rhumba musicians enjoy peak business from live shows and outdoor events. Although Tsheba is not very active on stage throughout the year, he traditionally makes December count with both a new album and a series of performances.
“I recently launched my 15th album and the launch was very successful. The uptake of the album has been encouraging and I’m very happy with the support so far,” Tsheba said.

“We have several live shows lined up during the festive season and fans will enjoy the new album.”

In Ofinga Bafun’ Induku, the artiste strikes a deliberate balance, offering party-friendly tunes while also catering to listeners who appreciate mature messages. The album opens with the hard-hitting Insuku Zika December, a reminder for people to celebrate responsibly, especially on the roads. On Ama 2K, Tsheba taps into the popular notion that those born in the 2000s are troublesome, narrating how a young woman from that generation influenced his moral compass.

Dlozi Lami Utheleleni is a deeply personal lament in which Tsheba attributes some of his life struggles to paternal ancestors he cannot appease, as he never knew his father. Another track, Omum Daddy, mourns the breakdown of a relationship. At the same time, the only Kalanga song on the album, Nkwinya Wangu, criticises relationships built on money, where men are abandoned once their finances dry up.

Since his recording debut in 2007, the Amalembu Kagogo hit-maker has demonstrated staying power in the Rhumba genre. His discography includes Makungahlangani Yeka, Ugogo Kakalali, Salani Lilandela, Bek’isandla, Memeza, Uyidl’injalo, Sebetshuna AmaFlop, Igaaga Yi Answer and Salani Lilandela. – @themkhust
