EX-Highlanders striker Njabulo “Tshiki” Ncube has challenged Bosso’s first team players, urging them to raise their levels and honour the club’s centenary with performances that match its stature.
Highlanders limped through last season, battling inconsistency and uncertainty before escaping relegation on the final day. For a club of Bosso’s standing, survival alone was never going to be enough.
“I reckon that the team did not play well last season. It was a paining experience by such a big club,” said Ncube.
With the club marking 100 years of existence this season, Ncube believes there is no room for excuses, especially in attack.
“This year Bosso will be celebrating 100 years of existence, and I call out for improved standards from the strikers, they should be clinical in front of goal. This is also a challenge to the new players, it all needs a collective effort and make their followers happy,” said Ncube, who also turned out for the Warriors, FC Platinum, Railstars and Motor Action. Tshiki’s call comes at a time of significant change at Bosso, with the club parting ways with Mason Mushore, Mckinnon Mushore, Melikhaya Ncube, Mbonisi Ncube, Honest Mhlanga, Nqobile Ndlovu, Martin Nhubu, Atusaye Nyondo and Learnmore Muyambo.
In a statement, Bosso expressed its sincere gratitude to the players for their unwavering dedication and commitment during their tenure with the club. The shake-up has extended beyond the playing staff. A few days ago, Bosso unveiled South African tactician Thabo Senong as their new head coach, while former Highlanders player Mkhokheli Dube returned to the club as assistant coach.
Dube’s return has been widely welcomed within the club. As a former Highlanders player, he is viewed as a respected member of the Bosso family, with his understanding of the club’s culture, values and traditions expected to play a key role in supporting the technical team and motivating the players.
Highlanders said further additions to the technical team and playing staff will be announced in due course. On the other hand, Senong has acknowledged the scale of the task before him and insists that only unity can lift the Bulawayo giants back to where they believe they belong.
The South African mentor has been tasked with guiding Highlanders to a top six finish this season, as the club marks its centenary, with junior development identified as a key pillar of the long-term strategy.
Senong, 45, has signed a two-year contract to lead Bosso’s rebuilding exercise, a process that has already seen the club bring in five new players.
The new recruits include former Chicken Inn goalkeeper Pride Zendera, who spent last season inactive.
Zendera has joined the black and white army alongside Mongameli Tshuma and Tawanda Shenje from Hwange, Royn Nyamono from Bikita Minerals and Rayton Chuma from the National University of Science and Technology.
