TSHOLOTSHO FC are so determined to avoid relegation and challenge for the league title this season by looking beyond the country and continent’s borders to achieve their objectives. According to Tsholotsho FC chairman Mlamuli Phiri, the Zhwane Boys cast their nets in Europe and South America where they spotted Italian goalkeeper Giacomo Ratto and Brazilian striker Diego Martins. They have also looked to the West African country of Ghana from where Allen Arthur, Anwar Sadat Wahab, Jonathan Kwamena and Eugene Owusa Prempeh have been identified for trials with the club.
Phiri said Ratto is due to arrive in Bulawayo this afternoon while Martins, Arthur, Wahab, Kwamena and Prempeh will all jet in on Thursday for trials, hoping to impress coach Lizwe Sweswe and his technical staff.
“We’re expecting the goalkeeper on Monday and the other five guys on Thursday. They’ll be received by our technical manager Joel Luphahla,” said Phiri.
He, however, declined to reveal who had recommended the players to Tsholotsho, although Chronicle Sport is reliably informed that a Portuguese player intermediary who helped Harare giants Dynamos secure coach Paulo Jorge Silva, is behind the deal.
From being the first rural-based side to play in the elite domestic league, Iziqholo Zezhwane are set to carve another piece of history by becoming the first ever Zimbabwean club to have an Italian and Brazilian player in their team.
Even though the club has set a top eight finish as their prime objective this season, the latest development proves that Tsholotsho want more than just a top eight slot.
Tsholotsho survived the relegation dogfight on the last day of their debut season in 2015 when they drew 1-1 against Harare City and relegation rivals Buffaloes were edged 0-1 by Dynamos.
