Caps United 1-1 Tsholotsho
A WASTEFUL Caps United was left counting their losses again yesterday when they let newboys Tsholotsho maintain their unbeaten run in Harare as they forced a draw in Castle Lager Premiership tie at the National Sports Stadium.
The Harare giants went ahead in the 40th minute when forward Dominic Chungwa headed home his second goal in as many games after some fine work by the exciting Phineas Bamusi.
But the Green Machine joy was shortlived as 16-year-old Tafadzwa Jaravani, who came in the second period, equalised for Tsholotsho.
Makepekepe did themselves a lot of disservice as their trusted arsenal upfront failed to bury numerous chances that came their way.
In the 62nd minute, Tsipa could have made it two for the hosts when he broke on the right with acres of space, beat his markers but miscued his effort in front of goal.
Three minutes later Chungwa was handed a golden chance to double the lead but fluffed his lines with the Tsholotsho ‘keeper already beaten.
Even after the equaliser, Caps United could have snatched a late winner but Chungwa was at it again with another miss while midfielder Godknows Mangani, in the 90th minute, failed to punish the newcomers.
“We were too wasteful, we were too generous. It was clear in Tsholotsho’s game plan that they were here for, at least, a point but they had surrendered their fate that they were losing the match but we were too wasteful,” said Caps coach Mark Mathe.
“Going forward I think we need to be more clinical and put the game to bed early. We created the chances.
“We need to talk to the players that they should be more clinical. You win a game by scoring goals and the only reason Tsholotsho got this draw is because we kept missing and missing.”
Tsholotsho coach Lizwe Sweswe was happy with the point earned.
The newboys beat Harare City and and also forced a goalless draw against Dynamos at Rufaro and are unbeaten in the capital.
On Sunday they meet the champions in Bulawayo in the reverse tie.
“One point away especially playing against a big team like Caps United it is okay. It was not a strategy to collect one point here, in fact I wanted three.
“We will try by all means that each and every game we play we collect a point or three so that we survive.
“According to the fixtures I think I have three games which are tough that is Triangle, Caps United and Dynamos so our target is to just collect four points from those three games and I think it is going to be okay for us,” he said.
