NEWLY formed Tsholotsho Pirates Netball Queens will be out to prove a point against Highlanders Queens when the two teams meet for the first time in a mini-tournament to be held at the Highlanders Club house tomorrow morning.
A lot will be expected from Tsholotsho Pirates as they seek to prove their strength before registering in the Bulawayo Netball League.
Tsholotsho Pirates director Melusi Ndebele said Highlanders should not expect an easy match on the courts as they are bringing a strong squad.
“The team is coming to Bulawayo in full force. The girls are well prepared because we will be out to prove that we are worthy to be in the Bulawayo Netball League.
“According to the Bulawayo netball rules we are required to play with affiliated teams to test our strength before registering in the main league.
“We have been preparing ourselves by participating in other competitions in Tsholotsho and I think judging from our performances, we are on the right track.
“At one time we were losing finalists even though we were missing some key players due to work commitments.
“Now that we are having the full team, our opponent should expect a tough encounter,” said Ndebele.
Tsholotsho Pirates was formed in July this year. Highlanders netball team manager Thenjiwe Mpofu said the newcomers should not expect any special treatment from them.
“We want to welcome the new guys (Tsholotsho) with a big win. They are a small team so we are going to show them how tough the league is.
“The Highlanders family has been doing great in all disciplines as witnessed by our senior team’s win against Dynamos last week. We are going to crush them,” she said.
Mpofu also said the weekend tournament would be a preparation for the Highlanders @90 celebrations tournament to be played on September 24
