A TEACHER at Nemane Adventist High School in Tsholotsho, Matabeleland North, Alexio Sibanda, has been honoured at the 2026 Zimbabwe Impact Awards (Zimpact Awards) in recognition of his contribution to education, mentorship and community development.
Sibanda was awarded the Excellence in Education and Mentorship which recognised his outstanding contribution to education, particularly his achievement of a 100 percent Advanced Level pass rate in Literature in English for 10 consecutive years.

In a citation by Zimpact Awards, Sibanda, also recorded the school’s most improved Ordinary Level Literature in English results.
“His mentorship has also helped the school’s quiz team become district champions in 2024 and 2025.
Between 2020 and 2022, Sibanda served as a National Radio Lessons facilitator for Literature in English, helping learners continue with their studies during the Covid-19 pandemic.
“Through guidance and counselling, he has also supported young people in navigating academic and personal challenges, while helping vulnerable learners access bursaries and financial assistance,” read the citation.
In an interview from his base in Tsholotsho, Sibanda who has spent more than 15 years in the teaching profession, said receiving the award was an overwhelming experience that reminded him of the people who had contributed to his journey.
“In receiving the award, firstly I felt a huge surge of disbelief. It was so unbelievable. I kept asking myself, ‘Is it really me?’ But joy took over as I reflected on the honour of being recognised and how much this recognition also reflects the people who have impacted me.
“I am determined to continue mentoring young minds, turning youthful energy into productivity. This goes beyond my classroom duties to inspiring a generation that will also be impactful,” Sibanda said.
He said his commitment remained to nurture young people who could make a positive difference in their communities.
Sibanda said the recognition had strengthened his resolve to continue serving his community, particularly Tsholotsho.
“The award is a strong reminder to keep on doing well. Recognition does not always come at our expected time, but it will definitely come,” he said.
Following this achievement, congratulatory messages have poured in for the educator.
His former colleague, respected teacher and innovator, Muziwandile Dube said: “It is with profound joy and immense pride that I extend my heartfelt congratulations to my dear friend, former colleague at Nemane Adventist High School, and distinguished educator on winning the award for Excellence in Education and Mentorship at the Zimpact Awards.
