THE country’s oldest commuter omnibus association, Tshova Mubaiwa Transport Corporation, has announced major operational changes aimed at modernising public transport services and strengthening compliance within the sector.

The association, long associated with white vehicles and brown branding, revealed it will now begin accepting silver and other approved light colours into its fleet, marking a departure from its long-standing tradition of operating exclusively white vehicles.

Tshova Mubaiwa marketing director and chief spokesperson Mr Ndaba Mabunda said the move reflects the association’s commitment to growth, inclusivity and modernisation.

“After more than four decades of serving the people of Bulawayo, we felt it was important to evolve in line with changing times. Accepting additional approved light colours allows us to accommodate more compliant operators and bring more vehicles into an organised and regulated framework,” said Mr Mabunda.

He said the decision followed extensive consultations with key stakeholders and is expected to help curb illegal operations while promoting unity within the transport sector.

“This update is about strengthening our association, reducing illegal operations and ensuring that more operators work within a structured and disciplined system. We want to build unity and ensure our traditions remain relevant in a modern transport environment,” he said.

In a second major development, Tshova Mubaiwa also announced a rebranding initiative, marking a new chapter in its evolution as a modern transport provider.

Mr Mabunda said the new brand identity reflects a renewed mission, values and vision aimed at improving how the association connects with commuters and partners.

“Our rebrand marks a new chapter for Tshova Mubaiwa. It reflects our renewed mission and our commitment to innovation, professionalism and customer-centred service. We want our brand to clearly communicate that we are evolving into a modern, efficient and reliable transport provider,” he said.

As part of the transformation drive, the association reaffirmed its commitment to commuters, prioritising safe, reliable and orderly transport services.

“Our clients, the commuters, remain at the centre of everything we do. We are committed to offering safe and reliable transport, improving the daily commuting experience and ensuring that Bulawayo residents can trust our services,” said Mr Mabunda.

He also highlighted Tshova Mubaiwa’s role as one of the pioneers of organised public transport associations in Zimbabwe, saying it intends to continue setting standards in the sector.

“We are proud to be among the pioneers of organised public transport associations in the country. Going forward, we want to continue leading the sector with grace, order and professionalism, setting benchmarks that promote discipline, safety and sustainable growth,” he said.

The association also welcomed ongoing Government reforms aimed at improving the ease of doing business in the transport sector.

Mr Mabunda expressed appreciation to the Second Republic led by President Mnangagwa for policy measures including the reduction and removal of certain costs such as garage inspection fees, operator’s licence fees, radio licence fees and retest fees.

“These reforms demonstrate Government’s commitment to supporting transport operators and improving the business environment. As Tshova Mubaiwa, we are grateful for these progressive measures,” he said.

He also acknowledged the support of provincial leadership, including the Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution for Bulawayo Metropolitan Province, Hon Judith Ncube, and the City of Bulawayo leadership for creating an enabling operating environment.

Tshova Mubaiwa said it remains focused on contributing to national development while delivering dependable, safe and efficient transport services to the people of Bulawayo.
