TSL Limited has started moving goods under its partnership with the National Railways of Zimbabwe.
TSL chief executive Washington Matsaira said the rail project has since started contributing to the group’s logistics division.
“When we spoke last year it was a pilot project, we’ve managed to move 25,000 tonnes of products ranging from fertiliser, grain among other goods to date.
The group’s logistics division is a supply chain management solution provider, with core competencies in the provision of comprehensive product handling services, which includes but not limited to creating customised logistics solutions, providing required infrastructure and equipment, inventory and stock management as well as third and fourth party logistics services.
Matsaira said the group is also looking at building a stronger regional footprint through arrangements with international players.
Last year, TSL struck a deal with DB Schenker, a wholly owned subsidiary of Deutsche Bahn AG that focuses on logistics. TSL will be the sole agent to the German head-quartered logistics company.
Matsaira said the company is looking at leveraging on the DB Schenker relationship to advance volume growth in the logistics division as well as accessing new international markets. “As we go into the current financial year we’re looking at leveraging on the DB Schenker relationship to advance volume growth, access new international markets while also getting to know world class practices.
“TSL hopes to have a stronger regional footprint through arrangements with international players.”
He said significant business is expected to flow from this relationship in future.
During the course of 2015, TSL terminated its joint venture with Classic Leaf with the vision to focus on expansion of farming activities.
Matsaira said the strategy after the termination of the JV will include introducing a wider range of commodities for local and export markets.
