Oliver ‘Tuku’ Mtukudzi who has of late been donning snapback caps and sling bags has collaborated with popular DJ, Stavo for a house track ‘Mwedzi Muchena’ that promises to be a festive hit.

The track released yesterday on Star FM during DJ Mox’s TXO programme immediately got rave reviews from listeners.

The song was produced by Stavo with vocals provided by Tuku.  It is a fusion of Tuku Music and house with traces of Tuku’s famous acoustic guitar making their mark. With not much lyrics, save for ‘Mwedzi muchena, mazuva awanda, uripi ko? Kutambura kwawanda, kutambura kwanyanya, zuva radoka,” the song has its focus on signs of hope towards a brighter day.

DJ Stavo who is inclined to house music said he had partnered Tuku as he wanted him to reach out to youths by moving away from his comfort zone of contemporary/afro jazz music ahead of his celebration of 40 years in the music industry next month.

“I told Tuku who’s been in the industry for 40 years that I wanted him to do something different that would wow people. I needed him to show people that he can sing music in different genres,” said DJ Stavo.

“Working with Tuku was incredible as we fused well. We wanted to do quite a lot of things but I wanted something fresh and he agreed,” said the DJ who has worked with South Africans Mandoza, Fiesta Black and Shota on various house tracks.

DJ Stavo who relocated to Harare from Kwekwe this year said he had planned to release Mwedzi Muchena next year but decided to do so ahead of the festive season.

“I’ve been in studio for the past six months and I took time working on this track as I wanted to make sure it was perfect before releasing it,” said DJ Stavo.

The song was also released on social media networks yesterday and is available for free download on Stavo’s Facebook page.
