GRANDDAD of Zimbabwe music Oliver “Samanyanga” Mtukudzi will tomorrow (Saturday) serenade his legion of music lovers expected to attend his mega show at Montclair Resort and Casino. Before Mtukudzi, shortly referred to as “Tuku” jumps on stage, rising afro-jazz diva, Ammara Brown and celebrated wheel spinner, DJ Ronnie will entertain hundreds of fun lovers expected to throng the hotel.
In an interview, the hotel’s general manageress, Regedzai Chimhari, said they would be an avalanche of activities scheduled to take place before the musical shows.
“This is a combined sports and music festival. There will be a Montclair-Tuku golf tournament in the morning until late in the afternoon and the musical show will start later in the evening. We hold Tuku shows twice a year and we expect this forthcoming show to be bigger and better.
“Other sporting activities such as tennis, putt putt, horse riding, squash, volley ball, casino and swimming will also be part of the line up at the fun-filled day,” she said.
She said she would take the opportunity to market the product.
The hotel, which is 87km from Mutare and 253km from Harare, is now under the Country Hotels and Suites which took over from Hotels Leisure Africa in June last year. And since then, several refurbishments have been done.
“We are looking forward to having a wonderful time with one of greatest entertainers of all time. We will also take the opportunity to inform the market on several exciting developments such as all the rooms have been kitted with a new sleep logic state of the art beds which are fire and insect retardant and come with a seven-year warranty while seven suites now have king-size beds.
“A total of 67 rooms have queen-size beds, while 10 budget rooms have double beds. All rooms now have LED TVs, new bed linen and electric blankets to shake away the famous Nyanga cold. This has greatly enhanced guest comfort,” she said.
She added that the old corridor carpets, main conference room air conditioners, conference room toilets were fixed, while the air conditioners in the conference room will enable delegates to condition temperature to the desired level of their utmost comfort.
“The Sun Lounge has being turned into a cutting edge 30-seater boardroom facility, complete with all the fine things. It is a one-stop shop in terms of all the basic and peripheral needs for high end conferencing delegates,” she said.
The rare combination will start performing at around 7pm.
Tuku who has a rich discography is expected to belt out a blend of new and old hits such as Mutserendende, Dande, Dzoka uyamwe and Mukombe wemvura among other tracks.
