SUPER star, Oliver ‘Tuku’ Mtukudzi’s show that has been penciled for the Heroes-eve has been moved to August 29 at Motoring Club. The show which was supposed to be Tuku’s second show back home after his United Kingdom tour, following tonight’s (Friday) joint show at the Chitungwiza Aquatic Complex with sungura maestro, Alick Macheso has been moved to allow the granddad of Zimbabwean music to take a well deserved rest after performing at Chimanimani Arts Festival tomorrow (Saturday).
Mtukudzi has not performed in Mutare this year and the closest he was to the city was in June at the Tuku golf show at Montclair Resort in Nyanga, which was more of an elite show going for a whooping $35 entrance fee.
Mutare Motoring Club spokesperson, Lovemore Chitima, said the show was moved to August 29 after further consultations involving all stakeholders.
All was in place for the show.
Like previously advertised the August 29 show will be supported Peter Muparutsa and the Runn Family and local dancehall sensation, I-Phinton.
Muparutsa, the founding member of the Runn Family, recently regrouped the outfit and launched their latest album ‘Echo of a child’s anthem’ last month in Harare and Mutare respectively.
The Runn Family Band was a hit in the 1980s and played an integral part in the history of Zimbabwe’s music.
Back in the days, the group released a string of hit singles which literary became national anthems like Hatichina Wekutamba Naye, a tribute to the late President of Mozambique Samora Machel, Gumbo Mumba-Gumbo Kunze, Moyo Muti, Inhapitapi Chete and Ishe Komborerai to mention a few.
