TUSKERS are on the verge of making it two out of two in the 2022/23 Logan Cup first class cricket competition as they head into the final day of their match against Rhinos needing 96 runs for victory at Old Hararians this morning.
Yesterday, the Logan Cup defending champions bowled out their opponents, Rhinos for 313 in the second innings having had a first innings lead of 218 runs to have a low target to chase on day four of the encounter.
Left arm spinner Sean Williams once again came to the party with the ball for the Bulawayo side taking four wickets for 44 runs in 18. 4 overs. Fast bowler, Sheunopa Musekwa took three wickets, conceding 61 runs in nine overs for Tuskers.
The other wicket takers for the defending champions were Ainsley Ndlovu, Nkosana Mpofu and Jordan Morris as they rounded up Rhinos’ innings to set up a low target for their batsmen to chase.
Rhinos’ batsmen however, did pull up a fight with four half centuries being scored on day three. Johnathan Campbell top scored with 68 runs off 100 deliveries while Remembrance Nyathi and Nyasha Mayavo scored 67 and 66 runs respectively. The other half century was from Eddie Byrom who finished with 54 runs.
Meanwhile, in the other match it was a special occasion for Mega Market Mountaineers’ Donald Tiripano who was presented with an accolade by Zimbabwe Cricket director of cricket, Hamilton Masakadza for reaching his 100th first class appearance. The 34-year old Tiripano made his first class cricket debut in March 2009.
On the field of play, Eagles ended day two on 317-5, trailing by 12 runs after they bowled out Mountaineers for 329 runs. Craig Ervine missed out on another century for Eagles, falling 93 runs off the bowling of Tony Munyonga. Wessly Madhevere ended the day unbeaten on 66 runs alongside Cunningham Ncube on 19 runs as the log leaders, Eagles are looking at maintaining their perfect start to the competition. — @brandon_malvin
