adminDave Houghton, Tuskers’ coach said he would field fringe players for the game with the regulars resting for the decisive Castle Logan Cup match that starts on Monday at the same venue.
The Bulawayo club is out of the One-Day championship race and the former Zimbabwe international believes the players that have spent the better part of the season on the terraces will hold their own tomorrow.
“Everyone is geared up for the One-Day and Castle Logan Cup games. Winning is all that the players are looking forward to and I believe they are going to play some good cricket.
“Just like the Southern Rocks match, we are going to rest some of our regular players for the One-Day game and use players that have not been playing a lot. Like I said before, I want to have a look at which players to sign from the Tuskers B team. I believe they are going to give their best,” said Houghton.
Some of the Tuskers regular players that will watch the One-Day encounter from the terraces include top-order batsman Briton Paul Horton and seamer Njabulo “Papa” Ncube.
Former Tuskers skipper Tawanda Mupariwa who spent the better part of the first half of the season nursing an injury, Tuskers 2010 Fielder of the Year winner Thabo Mboyi, Neil Davidson, Brian Chari and young Stephen
Chimhamhiwa are some of the players that are likely to be in the One-Day team.
Spin bowler John Nyumbu, who has fallen down the order in the star-studded Tuskers squad, might also be thrown into the fray tomorrow.
Some of the senior players that featured for Tuskers in the win against Southern Rocks include pace bowler Glen Querl who is on an earn-as-you-play contract, experienced top order batsman Keith Dabengwa, Gavin Ewing, Charles “Chopper” Coventry and Stephen Trenchard.
Other players commanding regular first team jerseys Sean Ervine, Bradley Staddon, wicketkeeper Tafadzwa Ngulube and Bradley Staddon are also expected to be part of Tuskers’ One-Day squad.
Houghton will name his final teams for the One-Day and Castle Logan Cup today.
