AFTER managing to collect a point in their previous game, Twalumba are geared up for their match against Karoi United today at Dzivarasekwa in the World Navi Northern Region Division One soccer league.
Twalumba last won a match in May when they beat Lake Harvest 2-0. They then drew two matches against Commando and DStv Rangers before losing six consecutive games just before the mid-season break.
However, they held log leaders Gunners to a goalless draw when the last round of the fixtures kicked off last week and maybe it’s an indicator of better results to come.
Twalumba coach Wilson Mutekede said their challenge has been a lack of precision in front of the goals.
“I think we have always approached our games with the necessary attention. I think we have been very unfortunate not to be getting maximum points in our encounters.
“We have been playing well. We control most of our games but the challenge is we have had mixed fortunes in terms of finishing.
“We are positive if we improve our finishing we will push up,” said Mutekede.
Mutekede said now that the window period is over his charges can focus on their game and judging from last week’s performance they were ready to take on the challenge.
“The youngsters, they played very well. Actually, we were in control of that game but basically it’s because now they are much focused.
“Before the window period a lot of teams were making enquiries and it disturbed their focus but they are now focused. I expect a good performance from the youngsters and that good performance should give us the results we want,” Mutekede said.
Twalumba lost 0-3 to Karoi in the reverse fixture and this will be an opportunity for them to turn the tables in their favour.
Karoi United coach Luckson Phiri said they will approach the game with caution and added that Twalumba were a good side.
“Twalumba are a very good young side and we will be very cautious in our approach. We have high respect for their coach Wilson.
“He is a fountain of knowledge.
“Every player is raring to go but it’s not going to be an easy encounter and we are not underrating our opponents.
“I think we will do our level best in this competition. Any team is not to be underestimated but I think it’s going to be a really tough match,” said Phiri.
Karoi is one of the teams that are living dangerously as they are sitting on position 15 and Phiri admitted that it was not going to be easy to change their fortunes for the better.
“It’s quite tough as a team to move from where we are but we hope with the type of players we have we will move.
“We cannot be relegated,” said Phiri.
