TWO men who brandished a knife then robbed a woman of her cellphone and money ran out of luck after the community of Pumula South in Bulawayo chased and caught them before making good their escape.

Police have commended the team work by the community through the neighborhood watch committee.

In a statement, Bulawayo Police Spokesperson Inspector Abednico Ncube said the public arrested Daniel Moyo (43) of Northend and Nkosana Sibanda (43) from Pumula East suburbs after they allegedly robbed a 51 year old woman from Pelandaba on Friday.

“The victim was approached by the suspects from behind while Sibanda produced a knife and threatened to stab her, Moyo was forcibly blocking her way as she was waiting for a commuter omnibus to town at Pumula East,” he said.

Insp Ncube said the suspects ran away after taking her Huawei phone and R70 in her handbag.

“The complainant screamed for help resulting in the members of the public who were nearby chasing the suspects and handed them to the police after catching them,” said Bulawayo police spokesperson.

He said they managed to recover the stolen items from Sibanda’s right pocket and the accused are being held by police to help with investigations.

Insp Ncube commended the community saying: “This is a very good practice by the community of Bulawayo where they react to SOS, where they react to assist their fellow members.”
