Two burnt beyond recognition in Beitbridge accident

Two people were burnt beyond recognition while another two incured serious burn wounds when the two commercial trucks they were travelling in collided head and caught fire on Thusday evening.

The accident occured at around 8pm along the Beitbridge to Harare highway near Joko resettlement area.

The police officer commanding Beitbridge district Chief Superitendent Mesuli Ncube confirmed tha accident on Friday.

“Indications are that one of the trucks was travelling from Harare towards Beitbridge with only the driver and without a load or passengers,” he said.

“The second truck was carrying a load of maize and three people including two passengers.

“Upon reaching the Joko area the driver who was heading towards Beitbridge avoided hitting a cow on the road and encroached into the on coming traffic lane resulting in a headon collision.

“As a result, the two vehicles caught fire burning the driver and one passnger beyond recognition. Another passenger and the driver of the second truck incured serious burn wounds”.

The injured , he added were in a serious condition and that they have been rushed to Beitbridge hospital.

The deceased have been taken to the local hospital mortuary pending postmortems.

Chief Supt Ncube said further investigations were in progress.
