TWO police officers appeared in court last Friday charged with fraud and criminal abuse of public office after they allegedly processed a fake police clearance for a Harare man.

Stanley Mazvimba (35) of ZRP Glen Norah Camp and Chipo Madara (32) of 1317B Dzivaresekwa 3, Harare appeared before magistrate Mr Tendai Mahwe charged with fraud and criminal abuse of duty as public officers.

They were remanded to April 8 on $50 bail. Prosecutor Mr Sebastian Mutizirwa alleges that the two misrepresented to Takesure Chirau that they were able to process a police clearance certificate for him in one day. It is alleged they charged him $20 before giving him a fake certificate.

Mazvimba is said to have also received $10 from Betty Tendai for vetting of finger prints in which he receipted $5 and converted the other $5 to his own use.

He went on to facilitate the vetting of fingerprints within a day, a process which takes seven days when procedure is followed.
