TRAGEDY struck on the Gweru-Zvishavane Road on Sunday when a Toyota Hilux slammed head-on into a bus, leaving two people dead and two others nursing serious injuries.
The crash happened around 12:30 PM at the 100km peg, turning the usually busy highway into a scene of twisted metal and chaos.
Police confirmed the grisly accident in a statement.
“The ZRP confirms a fatal road traffic accident which occurred on 15 September 2025 at around 1230 hours along the Gweru-Zvishavane Road,” police said.
According to the statement, the Hilux had three passengers on board when it collided with a bus carrying eight passengers.
“Two people were killed while two others were injured when a Toyota Hilux vehicle with three passengers on board was involved in a head-on collision with a bus carrying eight passengers,” the police added.
The bodies of the victims were ferried to Zvishavane District Hospital mortuary for post-mortem. The injured, some in critical condition, were admitted at the same hospital.
Authorities have urged motorists to exercise caution, especially on the accident-prone stretch of road.
