Livingstone Mandizvidza (24) and Aaron Kamuti, both of Solani Epworth, were not formally charged when they appeared before Harare magistrate Mr Donald Ndirowei
They were remanded in custody to September 21 this year.
Mr Ndirowei advised the two to seek bail at the High Court.
Prosecutor Ms Joyce Sithole alleges that on September 2 this year the pair, acting in connivance with a third man identified only as Blessing who is still at large hatched a plan to rob Mr Elefigiyo Tendero Mwazha, the driver of a Toyota Raum.
At around 8:30pm Mandizvidza approached Mr Mwazha who was parked outside Chitungwiza bus terminus along Robson Manyika Road in the city centre and asked him to take him to Manyame Park in Chitungwiza.
The driver charged them US$20 and Mandizvidza called his alleged accomplices whom he introduced as friends.
He told the driver that they shared the house.
Mandizvidza, it is alleged, sat on the front passenger seat while Kamuti and Blessing sat on the back seat. Upon arrival at Manyame Park they told the driver to turn into a dust road which they said led to their house but when they got to a secluded spot, Kamuti allegedly grabbed the driver from behind by the neck, pressed his head against the headrest and punched him on the face several times.
They allegedly dragged him out of the vehicle and assaulted him until he passed out.
They searched his pockets and stole a cellphone worth US$59 before driving off in the car. The two were arrested following a tip off from members of the public. They were allegedly found with some of the stolen property valued at US$100.
The car was not recovered. The driver identified the pair at an identification parade.
