TWO men in Bulawayo have each been fined US$200 after they were caught smoking crystal methamphetamine at a residential flat in the city centre.
Shelton Masuku (27) of Emakhandeni suburb and Sandile Muzomuhle Sibindi (32) of Zhombe, Midlands Province, were convicted of smoking crystal methamphetamine in violation of Section 157(1)(b) of the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act by Bulawayo magistrate Mr Golden Mahamba.
They were each fined US$200 or five months in prison.
The magistrate also wholly suspended the five-month custodial sentence for five years on condition that they do not commit a similar offence during that period.
Prosecuting, Mr Arnold Mudekunye said on August 13, police detectives on patrol received a tip-off that Masuku and Sibindi were smoking crystal methamphetamine at a residential flat in the city centre.
“The detectives proceeded to the house where they found Masuku and Sibindi smoking the drug in one of the rooms using a J-shaped pipe,” said Mr Mudekunye.
The detectives identified themselves before recovering the pipe from Masuku.
The court heard that the two men failed to produce licences or permits authorising them to smoke the drug, resulting in their arrest.
