A brilliant innings of 51 off 15 balls by Tinashe Kamunhukamwe set the stage for a massive 20-over score of 281 for five wickets by Takashinga Patriots 1 in an NPL T20 Blast on their home ground on Monday, making Uprising pay for sending them in.
Kamunhukamwe hit four sixes and six fours and was out in the fifth over when the score was 77.
Hamilton Masakadza almost matched him and was the highest scorer with 74 off 29 balls, with seven sixes and three fours, while his brother Wellington at the death made 47 not out off 19 balls.
Uprising made a gallant effort, with Nick Welch cracking off with 69 off 31 balls, with seven sixes and four fours, but after he was out nobody else could stay in long enough to compete with the massive Takashinga.
The best hitting from the rest came from Aisha Chibanda with 37 off 15 balls, but after 20 overs the score was 230 for nine, a very good total in most circumstances, but this time it gave Takashinga victory by 51 runs.
At Old Hararians Sports Club, Kevin Kasuza played an excellent and well-judged innings of 64 that led Westside to a four-wicket victory over Rainbow. The highest innings of the day, though, was played by Brian Mudzinganyama, who carried his bat through the Rainbow innings of 159 for seven wickets after they were put in to bat, scoring 73 not out off 66 balls with a six and nine fours.
At Mutare Sports Club, Rodney Mupfudza (43) and Tashinga Musekiwa (41 not out) revived a sagging Takashinga Patriots 2 innings well enough to bring the team a 37-run victory over Mutare Sports Club.
Tendai Chatara and Donald Tiripano bowled so well that Takashinga, put in, lost their first four wickets for 45 runs, but this pair, helped by Elton Chigumbura who made 31 before retiring hurt, fought back to an eventual total of 153 for five.
Prince Masvaure had the impressive bowling figures of two wickets for only 14 runs in his four overs. At Kwekwe Sports Club, Wessly Madhevere enjoyed a good innings of 56 to play the major part in Gladiators’ six-wicket victory over Amakhos.
Amakhosi, put in to bat, would have been in serious trouble but for the one excellent partnership that accounted for most of their runs.
This was for the third wicket, when Nkosana Mpofu and Tawanda Mhora (40) put on 83 in 11 overs, broken only when Mpofu had to retired hurt for 62 scored off 51 balls.
The later batters failed as they had to hit out recklessly and the final total was 134 for six wickets, with Phase Mukabeta taking three wickets for 28 runs in his four overs.
Madhevere opened the batting with Ashley Mufandauya (20), and they put on a dynamic 66 in six overs.
Madhevere scored his runs out of 93 off 40 balls with two sixes and six fours, and after he left Owen Muzondo saw Gladiators home with 26 not out.
