Two pedestrians killed in suspected hit‑and‑run

POLICE in Plumtree are appealing to the public for information that could assist in investigating a suspected hit and run accident that claimed the lives of two pedestrians.

The victims were discovered dead in the early hours of January 31, 2026 along the Bulawayo-Plumtree highway.

In a statement, the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) said, “The ZRP is investigating a fatal hit and run road traffic accident, which occurred on January 31, 2026 at the 36-kilometre peg along the Bulawayo-Plumtree Road.

“Circumstances are that the incident occurred at around 04:30 hours. Two men from Figtree, Albert Nkomo (24) and Xolani Mguni (39), were hit by an unknown vehicle and died on the spot. The duo was travelling to Mncwazini Village in Figtree, Bulilima District, Matabeleland South. However, a mudguard suspected to be from a Mazda X5 vehicle, was found at the scene.”

The matter was reported to police, and the bodies were taken to Plumtree District Mortuary Hospital for post mortem examinations.

Police have urged anyone with information to assist with the investigation and help bring the driver to justice.

“Anyone with information should contact their nearest police station. Say no to hit-and-run road traffic accidents.”
