TWO people were killed while nine others injured when a Toyota Fortuner was involved in a head on collision with a Honda Fit at the 171 kilometre peg along the Harare-Chirundu Highway on Wednesday.
The accident occurred at around 11am when the Toyota Fortuner tried to overtake a motorcycle resulting with the head-on collision.
National police spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed.
“The ZRP confirms a fatal road traffic accident which occurred at the 171 kilometre peg along Harare-Chirundu Road on October 23, 2024 at around 11 am,” he said.
“Two people were killed while nine others were injured when a Toyota Fortuner vehicle with no passengers on board allegedly tried to overtake a motor cycle resulting in the vehicle colliding head-on with a Honda Fit vehicle with eight passengers on board.
“The bodies of the victims were taken to Karoi Hospital mortuary for post mortem whilst the injured were admitted at the same hospital.”
Meanwhile, police in Harare are appealing for information which may assist to identify the body of a woman who died after being hit by a Toyota Hiace vehicle along Robert Mugabe Road near Mukuvisi Bridge on October 1, 2024 at around 7.52 pm.
The victim is approximately aged between 23 and 25 years. She was wearing a green and black top, pink hat, lime green and grey shoes and a ring on the middle finger.
The body is at Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals mortuary.
