Two soccer players nabbed with nearly a tonne of mbanje

Police have arrested two soccer players for allegedly trafficking 750 kilogrammes of dagga worth US$75 000 along the Kwekwe–Kadoma Highway.

In a statement, the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) said the suspects, Tumai Matsika, popularly known as Abas Amidu (29), and Reuben Kudzai Mhlanga (41), were apprehended on October 3, 2025, after being found in possession of the contraband in a silver Honda Shuttle vehicle (registration number AGP 6776).

“The ZRP confirms the arrest of soccer players, Tumai Matsika, also known as Abas Amidu (29), and Reuben Kudzai Mhlanga (41) for drug trafficking. The two were found in possession of 750kg of dagga valued at USD75 000 in a silver Honda Shuttle vehicle, registration number AGP 6776, along Kwekwe–Kadoma Highway on 03/10/25,” said police.

In a related incident, police arrested Prosper Mphofu (48) at Trabablas Interchange after he received a parcel containing 60kg of dagga valued at US$6 000 from an unidentified vehicle.
