POLICE in Featherstone have arrested two women, Rachel Nhidza (28) of house number 5321 Glen Norah B, Harare and Tracy Manda (28) of number 4067B Zinyengeri, Epworth, after they were caught smuggling unregistered drugs from South Africa.
On November 16 officers from the Zimbabwe Republic Police Featherstone were deployed at the 103km peg along Harare – Masvingo Highway under “Operation Order Weka 111” from midnight to 6 pm.
They arrested the two parties who were in a bus which was coming from South Africa with bags containing dangerous drugs.
Mashonaland East provincial spokesperson, Inspector Simon Chazovachii, confirmed the arrest.
“The duo was arrested for unlawful possession of unregistered medicine and on the day, the police officers stopped the Harare-bound Best Logistics Bus, registration number LW67RMGP and drawing a trailer with registration MB92STGP laden with passengers destined to Harare from South Africa,” he said.
Insp Chazovachii said the bus was being driven by Allan Shanga (43) of house number 4600 Dzivarasekwa Extension, Harare.
When they were intercepted, the police conducted searches and recovered the smuggled drugs.
“During the searches, the police recovered one black bag containing 33 X 100ml of unregistered Astra pain syrup medicine stashed under Nhidza’s seat and 20 litre containers with 112x100ml Astra pain syrup bottles next to Manda’s seat,” he said.
“The police asked the driver whose items they were and he pinpointed the two accused persons who had boarded the bus at Kranskop Garage in South Africa.”
The duo admitted to possessing the unregistered medicine and they were immediately arrested and will appear before the Chivhu Magistrate Court.
