ZANU-PF national political commissar Cde Saviour Kasukuwere has warned party supporters against abusing social media platforms like WhatsApp and creating imaginary conflicts that do not help to build the party. Addressing party members at Davies Hall, Zanu-PF provincial offices in Bulawayo on Friday, Cde Kasukuwere said the ruling party does not tolerate indiscipline.
He said Zanu-PF business was not conducted through social media. Cde Kasukuwere said party members should learn to follow protocol if they had issues they wanted attended to. “This WhatsApp business, stop it. Let’s work with the leadership. In politics you won’t succeed if you don’t respect the leadership,” he said.
Cde Kasukuwere’s warning was prompted by a failed demonstration against him instigated by a group of alleged faceless Zanu-PF members who circulated a WhatsApp message plotting his ouster. The faceless supporters were accusing Cde Kasukuwere of fanning factionalism and destroying the party from within.
In their message the faceless protesters alleged that leaders of the party’s organs had blessed their demonstration and were going to address the demonstrators at a venue in Harare.
The leaders of the various organs of the party distanced themselves from the planned ouster of the political commissar. Cde Kasukuwere said disgruntled members were free to leave instead of causing unnecessary friction from within. “The doors are wide open. If you want to leave the party you can go. The party will remain stronger,” he said.
Cde Kasukuwere urged Zanu-PF members not to lose grip and continue working tirelessly in building the party. Cde Kasukuwere said every Zimbabwean should uphold the values and principles of the former freedom fighters who participated in the liberation struggle. At the same meeting Cde Kasukuwere urged party leadership to desist from holding secret meetings in hotels saying that is where divisions emerged.
He said instead of holding unsanctioned meetings at hotels, the party leadership should engage members at grassroots level.
