Zimbabwe Under-19 captain Kelis Ndlovhu believes the ongoing warm-up series against Namibia will give exposure to the new members of the Young Lady Chevrons team as they prepare for the World Cup set for early next year.
Ndlovhu captained the Zimbabwe national team at the inaugural ICC Under-19 World Cup last year and believes warm-up matches will expose the players to the expectations of international matches.
“I think it’s a good preparation for them playing international games and learning a lot from those games, they are showing that they are all learning and have passion to win every single game,” she said.
Ndlovhu has praised Zimbabwe Cricket for availing preparatory matches for the squad as they prepare for the global showcase.
“These matches are very important cause it show us where we are exactly as a team and what needs to be improved moving forward, so I just hope we will have more games before we go to the World Cup.”
Ndlovhu is also part of the Lady Chevrons team and urges her Under-19 teammates to work extra hard if they are to live their dream of making it into the senior women’s team.
“I am always encouraging them to give their best and to believe in themselves, which is the biggest thing that I have done since I started playing cricket.
“I always put God first in everything I do. As for them to play for the senior team, they have to be tough and robust as a senior team is the higher level of cricket,” said Ndlovhu. Having put up a good opening partnerships with Beloved Biza at the recent Kwibuka T20I tournament held in Rwanda, Ndlovhu revealed that the two have a long understanding having played together at St Aidans Cricket Academy in Chitungwiza.
“It’s been exceptionally good seeing Beloved raising her hand and taking responsibility for hitting three consecutive 50s it is something big for her.
“I think our partnership had been good since primary school we grew up together,” said Ndlovhu.
