The United Family International Church (UFIC), through its philanthropic unit, the Agape Family Care yesterday handed over food hampers and an assortment of other donations to children and expecting mothers at Sally Mugabe Children’s Hospital in Harare.

UFIC pastor Prime Kufakunesu said the donations are part of the church’s leader, Prophet Emmanuel Makandiwa’s desire to celebrate his birthday with the underprivileged.

“Prophet Makandiwa will celebrate his birthday on the 25th of December. So, as has been his culture since 2009, of celebrating his birthday with the less-privileged, we have come here to celebrate with the admitted children.

“Our prophet believes that everyone should have a good time during the festive season and that is why we have made this donation here today,” he said.

Head of Sally Mugabe Central Hospital’s paediatric division, Matron Lucia Jongwe commended the gesture, saying it would help the hospital in these trying times.

“We have been affected from all sides because of Covid-19. We lost some breadwinners and some are even admitted due to the virus. We feel very humbled with the donations we have received today and the groceries will help families who are failing to feed their children due to different circumstances,” she said.

The Sally Mugabe Children’s Hospital houses dozens of newly born babies and expecting mothers, while it also comprises a Malnutrition Unit to cater for children admitted with severe malnutrition.
