THE poetry duo of Max Magaba and Obey Maposa have published a poem titled ‘Rusununguko,’ which aims to trace the country’s liberation struggle.
It highlights the significant role played by the spirit mediums during the war.
Magaba told H-Metro their intention was to ensure that the younger generation understands that the freedom they enjoy today was not handed down on a silver platter.
The poem pays homage to the spirit mediums, recognising their pivotal role in guiding and supporting the liberation struggle.
He urged the younger generation to be prepared to defend Zimbabwe’s hard-won independence, encouraging them to embrace their heritage and actively contribute to the nation’s growth.
“We wanted to honour Zimbabwe’s independence by delving into its history and acknowledging the sacrifices made by our ancestors.
“By using relatable language, we hope to bridge the generational gap and educate the youth about the struggles that led to our freedom.
“Our aim is to inspire the youth to love and appreciate their country, to understand its history and to actively work towards a prosperous future.
“Zimbabwe’s independence is a constant reminder that our freedom requires continuous effort and dedication. We hope this poem serves as a catalyst for dialogue and reflection among the younger generation,” said Magaba.
