Stand-Up comedy enthusiasts are set to be treated to one of the best comedy nights this year as award-winning spoken word mavens Doc Vikela and Bhutisi will be holding a show at Cotton Lounge in Bulawayo on Independence Day.
The gig is part of the duo’s “Comedy Junta” national stand-up comedy tour, which so far has been taken to Triangle, Harare and Mutare. Sanctified Comedy, KwaNtuthu Comedy Festival, Cotton Lounge, Simuka Comedy, Vitamind Pharmacy, Petani Kitchen, are some of the sponsors of the event.
One of the organisers of the gig Dumisani “MaForty” Ndlovu from Sanctified Comedy said they decided to host the event as it is in line with their vision.
“Our Partnership with Cotton Lounge is to have Cotton Lounge be the home of comedy. We are open to any stand-up comedians, whose content is in line with Sanctified Comedy Club. So, when Doc Vikela reached out on having a show in Bulawayo, it only made sense to have him and Bhutisi have their Bulawayo leg of the tour at Cotton Lounge.

“So far, we haven’t come up with the comedians who will be supporting acts, but we will announce them in due course. As partners and friends of Doc Vikela and Bhutisi, we are looking forward to providing refreshing comedy content to stand-up comedy fans not just through this show, but all our shows. Fans have to brace for a polished world-class stand-up comedy set from these two, as their tour targets comedy lovers and whoever wants to start following Zimbabwe’s stand-up comedy sector,” said MaForty.
The comedy nights at Cotton Lounge was created by KwaNtuthu Comedy Festival, as a way of cultivating and promoting the culture of clean comedy. The initiative aims at giving established as well as up and coming comedians an opportunity to showcase their craft, encouraging them to present family-friendly content on their set pieces.
The first edition of the comedy nights took place on 15 February and featured reigning Roil Bulawayo Arts Awards (RoilBAA) Outstanding Comedian Mbongeni Ignatius, as well as upcoming comedians D’juni and Blessings.
The second gig took place on 29 February and it was headlined by Harare based comedians Tinoe, Ace and Tinashe. After the Doc Vikela and Bhutisi “Comedy Junta,” Cotton Lounge will host Nigel the Slick Pastor as King Kandoro.
